Re: View Users default printer not always sticking

The ThinPrint was the culprit, by the way. After removing the Virtual Printing section of the install, all our issues disappeared. We may be in the minority, though, as we have purged all locally attached printers like the vermin they are.

Saludos!

vSphere Replication is actually a small piece of SRM, but it does not offer all the advanced features and failovers have to be done manually.

Yes, I wish I could turn off thinprint at my org but people rely on it

This is most commonly a symptom of not having the time sync'd between the host that the vCO client is running on and the host that the vCO Server is running on. Discussed recently here:  logs are not display on 'logs' tab in Orchestrator client

That thread also indicates another possible cause being a very long username.

VMware Horizon HTML Access timeout error

Anyone else having similar issue when trying to access your desktop through the Security Server from the outside?

An error has occurred: {“code”:”ETIMEDOUT”,”errno”:”ETIMEDOUT”,”syscall”:”connect”}

As stated on the blog?

New VMware Horizon View Clients and HTML Access Now Available! | VMware End-User Computing Blog - VMware Blogs

I can connect just fine internally when bypassing the Security Server or if using the View Client when using the Security Server.

So it must be just a matter of opening the port(s) on the hardware firewall (Cisco ASA 5510) for me. But I did try opening tcp port 8443 and 22433 on the Cisco ASA but still getting the same error code.

The Windows Firewall on the Security Server and Connection Server for VMware View Blast are enabled and set to allowed on the incoming ports.

Anyone else successfully deployed these HTML Access behind the Cisco firewall?

Do you mind sharing your configuration?

TIA.

Trying to go as simple as possible: One floating VM from vCenter / ESXi. Still stuck.

Okay:

So far, I've .. :

1. Failed at creating a pool of automatic linked clones with Quickprep: I need a KMS for that. Don't want to do that.

2. Failed at creating a pool of automatic lined clones with Sysprep.

Okay.. I'm ready to take a giant leap BACKWARDS, and just get the following going:

ONE Floating Windows 7 32-bit VM.

And I'm still stuck.

What I'm doing:

1. Put apps, and VMware View Agent on the machine. Joined domain. Shut it down. Took snapshot.

2. Created Manual Pool. Floating. vCenter virtual machines.

3. Pick the ONE VM (from step 1).

4. Pool "creates" and appears to start the VM.

5. Poking my head in via the ESXi console, I see the machine start.. and then.. just sit there. It's waiting for someone to log on, and nothing else at all is happening.

My status is "Waiting for agent" as seen here:  http://screencast.com/t/lhECz2mtlZ

VMware Tools and Agent are (I swear) on the VM as seen here: http://screencast.com/t/qHH34FptXS4

I can manually log on (whoop de doo)... but vCenter's events are not showing anything other than (again) .. "Waiting for agent") and the following: http://screencast.com/t/FDZmCZVc

I must have missed the memo or something, and maybe DIDNT do something to my VM guest.. because all my tests are failing in exactly the same place: all my tests with floating pools all just stop right here and a lot of nothing happens after the guest is started.

By creating a manual pool, my hope was  to avoid all wierd issues.

This should be working.. but .. alas.. I am stuck.. (this is my 5th day at this.)

Thanks in advance.

Re: Web client SSL certificates for SSO integration in vCloud director

Anyone that uses self signed certificates OR where the certificate authority is not trusted by the browser, will hit many errors.

If you are using a wild card certificate, you have to ensure that it is assigned to the individual applications that require it and that the domain matches ... wildcard being *.domain.com and then can be assigned to anything that matches that DNS/FQDN domain.

The vSphere web client is not controlled by vCloud.  it's a cert on its own, and is also stored in the lookup service.

There is a tool to help you through the steps:

vCenter Certificate Automation Tool – Now Available | VMware vSphere Blog - VMware Blogs

VMware KB: Deploying and using the SSL Certificate Automation Tool

kb.vmware.com/kb/2041600
What you want to do is disable vSphere SSO in vcloud, and unregister it from the lookup service.
Replace certificates as required ... then register and enable it again.

VM or vApp templates are not editable in the current versions.  We are working on addressing this in a future release.

Yes, I agree your issue must indeed be another one.

One thing I know that by using copy&paste of files sometimes ends up being a problem is the file size of the file being copied and the amount of free space. The actual copying is done via temporary files, so while you are trying a copy&paste make sure that you have enough free disk space for the actual copy.

Re: STAX Error when executing VMMark2-STAX.bat - STAX Service Not Registered

So I am still stuck on this - and I tried to do some additional troubleshooting on my own.  It looks like the issue may have more to do with the STAF process not running.

  • Note, I had already configured task manager to start the STAF process per the VMMark guide

First Question - How can I tell if it is running?  I tried getting into task manager to see if I could find the process and I did not, I was looking for anything with STAF in the name

- Is it possible the process runs under a different name?  If so, what should I look for

Second Question.

I am operating under the assumption that the process is failing to start.  I traced through all the bat files involved in starting the staf process so I could run them one at a time

  • Issue - All of them instanly close the command window after starting.  I tried putting some pause statements in there so I could see what was happening but each individual command seems to want to still use a separate window and then it closes right away.  Is there a way I can get the window to stay open?
  • I feel like I saw an error in one of them, but it flies through in a fraction of a second.

selecting revert snapshot displays a useless info box

Hi,

I've got a WS10 exp running on PCLinuxOS and I just was reverting a snapshot.

During that I get a warning that long mode has been disabled. While that may technically be so, it is really only relevant info during a startup of a new VM that is 64 bits. In this case my guest is 32 bits windows XP and I wasn't booting the VM, but rolling back a snapshot.

See screenshot (quality is crappy as it is taken via a remote KVM over IP device)

Good catch, I was referencing 1.5...disregard.

Easiest thing to do is open a command prompt on the prime client and do the following

cd C:\STAF

execute "STAFEnv.bat"

execute "C:\STAF\bin\STAFProc.exe"

This will show you the error.

When you created your automated task (for the prime client only) make sure it starts STAF at login.

To test functionality open a command prompt and type "STAF local ping ping", it should respond with pong.

Can you log into the VM that it creates and see the Event Log? What's your Sysprep customization doing?

Re: Trying to go as simple as possible: One floating VM from vCenter / ESXi. Still stuck.

Firewall, firewall, firewall. Win7's firewall is likely blocking ports. When View says "Waiting for Agent" that means it's waiting for the agent to respond. This can happen waiting for a service to start or if a firewall blocks it.

And the "Empty pool" error is because you've logged into the only desktop (likely via vCenter -- REMEMBER: This counts as a connection as far as RDP/PCoIP are concerned and since those are SINGLE USER protocols you won't be able to log into View if you've logged in via the vCenter console). Log off vCenter and try connecting with the View Client would be a better test.

Since this is a manual pool there is no need for SysPrep or QuickPrep.
