Re: Resource pool and cluster vSphere

Hi,

Resource pool can be created only when DRS cluster is enabled or on standalone ESXi hosts.

So in your case you have configured DRS cluster and created resource pool.

Below are possible scenario-

1. If the virtual machine VM1, VM3, VM6 are moved to only esx3 and if VMs are utilizing all assigned resources and ESX3 don't have enough resources then DRS will try to move VMs to another host in DRS cluster and balance the load across all hosts in cluster.

DRS will try to balance load in cluster based on DRS automation level.

2. if more RAM, CPU is configured for VMs than Reserved RAM, CPU in resource pool then still ESX3 can run these VMs but VM performance will be impacted when all VMs try to compete for resources.

3. if you reserve RAM, CPU per VM and if ESXi host/ESX3 don't have enough resources then you will not be able power on VM on ESX3 until esx3 host guarantee reserved resources for that VM so DRS will try to power on and run VM on another ESX host which can provide reserved resources.

ESX cluster do not share resources across ESXi hosts.

on VMnet1 portgroup  and its switch set Promiscuous mode to accept in security tab and try to connect/ping esxi hosts again.

OK it is more clear now.

However, you cannot extract vmdk or any other files from a OVA.

The only purpose of the OVA is to deploy VMs and not extract files from it. It is not like a ISO file where you can extract anything you want from it.

Sorry mate.

Is there a way to install the vmparport service manually or to find out, why this service is not installed?

Re: how to map a shared folder to a drive

Hi,

I was a bit confused at your request as an external disk is just mounted under Volumes like network shares  and -yes also- VMware Shared Folders gets mounted down there.

So I went to a macOS Sierra guest of mine and added Shared folder access.

The icon for the share is added to the desktop like normal (as would external disks) and it shows up here like this:

$ mount
/dev/disk0s2 on / (hfs, local, journaled)
devfs on /dev (devfs, local, nobrowse)
map -hosts on /net (autofs, nosuid, automounted, nobrowse)
map auto_home on /home (autofs, automounted, nobrowse)
.host:/VMware Shared Folders on /Volumes/VMware Shared Folders (vmhgfs)

The "mapping as a drive" concept is a Windows one, it doesn't really exist within macOS.

You're not saying why you need it that way, which might help.

One thing you might be able to do is to create a dmg file via Disk Utility. Create it at the file share as read/write and mount that.

It behaves more closely to external disks, but .. without knowing what you are trying to do that's just a suggestion.

Still this issue is re-occurring.

Re: Host printers disappeared after update to Workstation Player 12.5

I have this issue as well.  I have win10 on multiple hosts computers.  They recieved the anniversary update for windows.  Then I updated vmware to 12.5 on all hosts.  Also updated vmware tools.  I have windows xp home and also windows xp pro as guest virtual machines.  After the update I lost all printers.  Local and network printers are gone.

Basically I'm seeing the same issues.

Re: Cannot change network to bridged: No unbridged host adapters

It is confirmed that Workstation 12.5 bridged networking is 100% broken.  Doesnt matter if you upgrade, fresh install, intel or broadcom NICs, etc.  Bridged networking does NOT work after reboot.  Its not antivirus, its not leftover data on the system.

Reverting to 12.1.1 resolves all issues immediately.  This is the fastest way to get on with your lives.

I tried everything including upgrade from 12.1.1, uninstall and complete cleanup of all old VMware registry entries and folders.  I even tried installing using the local admin profile to eliminate possible UAC issues.  Nothing works once you reboot.

Those of us that rely on programs such as this for our daily work do not have time to do your QA testing for you, which seems to be a bigger trend with lots of software companies these days.  The way I see it VMware once again owes me 2 hours of my life back for trying to get another broken product that was released to the public without proper QA testing working.

I use Win10x64 fully patched.  Intel Xeons and NICs on one system, AMD and Broadcom on another.  Same issues with both.

Windows Screen size or resolution problem?

I have had to re-install vmware fusion 7 with windows 7 on my macbook pro. I now can't resize the windows 7 to anything other then square. In other words previously I could make windows 7 rectangular drag it to the side of the screen and then run another same size window (say firefox) on the other side of a thunderbolt display. How do I fix this?

Re: Upgrading from version Fusion 8 to Fusion 8.5 problem

I haven't had any problems yet since I have to buy a Windows 10 iso.  I was reading on this forum from users who have experienced running Fusion 8.5 with a Windows 10 VM.  I think VMware is working on a fix to get everything running smoothly again.  If I have any problems, I will come back to this forum and discuss it.

i tried to do that changing the mac adress on the vmware but didn'k work...i'm not sure if i would create a new vm and change the mac adress before the first boot,do you think if  could work with this?

All software is different, but yes that is worth a go. It might not be the MAC but I have seen software using the MAC address for licensing purposes.
